Do you know that your subconscious mind holds the key to your success?
Based on the book “Think and Grow Rich”, by understanding your subconscious mind and use it properly, it can allow you to connect to the infinite intelligence…..
Now, I am no expert in this, so I feel somehow inadequate to discuss about the subconscious mind.
However, I feel obligated to at least point out the importance of our subconscious mind.
By understanding it, you will begin to understand that what has been holding you back in life are the limiting beliefs you DO NOT know you have at the subconscious level.
Understand Your Subconscious Mind
At a high level, your subconscious mind is:
1) A record storage. It records all your past experiences through the 5 senses;
2) It also stores your beliefs, values and habits. Some of these information was passed down to you by your ancestors while other was installed by your parents, your environment and some of you by your conscious mind;
3) It does not have the ability to discern right from wrong or good from bad. It accepts any ideas that are given to it by the conscious mind;
4) It cannot tell what is real from what is imagined (that is why “fake it till you make it” does work in many situations);
6) It learns deductively. is like the earth, it grows whatever idea is planted in it. It will grow good ideas AS EQUALLY AS it grows bad ideas;
7) It learns by repetition with thoughts that are mixed with emotions. That is why It is also called the “emotional mind”;
8) Anything installed in the subconscious mind will begin to express through OUR BODY. It becomes our internal software that runs 95% of our involuntary behavior.
What Does The Expert Say
Of all the experts, I have found that Bob Proctor best explains what subconscious mind is and how it functions.
Here is how he explains our subconscious mind:
Before the age of reason (around age 7), our conscious mind has not yet developed, so our subconscious mind is widely open, like an empty cup.
Any thoughts, ideas or behavior coming from our environment including our parents, relatives, friends…etc would be implanted directly into our subconscious mind and accepted as such.
They then form the patterns or programs for our values, beliefs, habits. Based on Bob, these patterns are called “the paradigm”.
The paradigm runs 95% of our behavior on autopilot.
In and Out of Our Comfort Zone
Involuntary behavior patterns include taking a shower, brushing our teeth, driving our cars, walking to the office..we do them without thinking twice. Or Involuntary thinking patterns such as “this is ALL I can do” or “I can do it ALL”…different attitudes toward the situation we are faced with.
These patterns are our “comfort zone”. If we want to change any behavior out of these pre-set patterns physically or mentally, we call it “out of our comfort zone”.
And our mind and body would not like it and would want to go back to its pre-set patterns or programs.
Say that we have an idea to change any behavior, we will need to first be emotionally invested in the idea, REPETITIVELY, in order to have it installed in our subconsciously mind.
Our subconscious mind is also referred to as the feeling mind. Any thoughts need to be invested with strong emotions, REPETITIVELY, for them to be permanently installed in the subconsciously mind.
Generally speaking, it takes at least 21 days. That is why most programs ask you to repeat the process for a minimum of 21 days. It is the duration required for a new habit to be installed in your subconscious mind.
Update Your Internal Software
Once an idea is reached at this level, this new idea would then be added to be part of the involuntary behavior ; the behavior we perform habitually without having to think twice (also see “fake it till you make it” post).
And this is what we are looking for. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people lie in the thinking pattern and behavior differences.
If we want to get into the next level of “success” for us, we need to identify what these new “ideas” or “behaviors” are and install them at the subconscious level.
This way we will be acting our way to our success.
How To Update Your Internal Software
How to install a new idea at your subconscious mind:
You can do it through:
1) visualization since your subconscious mind cannot tell what real or what is imagined ( a lot of elite athletes use visualization to improve their performance);
2) Journal out exactly what you want to achieve repetitively, right before bedtime and early morning shortly after you get up (at this time your conscious mind is not as active, ideas can get into your subconscious mind much more easily);
3) Hypnosis can help speed up the process for your new idea to reach your subconscious mind. When you are hypnotized, your conscious mind is not thinking actively, anything that is suggested in the process could more easily bypass your conscious mind and go directly into your subconscious mind.
Time For Software Upgrade
Life is an adventure. But most of us live the same way year after year. We are held back by our paradigms. Remember, when you are out of its alignment, you are out of your comfort zone.
Do not let your paradigm run your life. Add new habits to it, stretch your comfort zone.
Experience your life the way you want it. LIVE IT AS YOU HAVE ENVISIONED!
