As you learned in the post on our subconscious mind, you know that 95% of our thoughts are involuntary, which means they are generated automatically without your even knowing that you are doing that thinking.
Our mind is wired to think the negatives
Further, 70% of those thoughts are negative. Based on the above, this translates to 50,000*95%*70%=33,350 thoughts a day are negative. It also means that 66.5% of our daily thoughts are negative. Negative thoughts include doubts, fears, criticism, comparison, jealousy, etc.We are what we think
So you might ask, how bad can these thoughts be? Thoughts are energy; wherever you place your thought energy is whatever results you will MANIFEST in life. Your subconscious mind is like a garden; whatever you think that got emotionally invested in it is whatever you will “grow” in life. The funny thing is that most people do not know that they think what they do not want instead of what they want. For example, you might think you want something (a promotion, a new job), but a part of your mind is thinking of something else (the 70% of negative thoughts) Say your conscious mind decided that you deserve a promotion. However, your subconscious mind thinks that promotion means less time for your family and yourself, more stress, or you do not even care as it is not what you want; it is what society expects you to have. Depending on which side of the coin you place your energy on and the intensity of this energy, your result in life will be different. Either a promotion would come, or something would happen for you not to get it. Remember, any thoughts at the subconscious level are involuntary. So, you are doing the thinking without knowing that you are doing it. That is why it is crucial to guard your mind. Likes attract likes. We live in the sea of thought energy..when you have negative thoughts, you attract negative energy. And negative energy attracts negative life events to your life, be them as the people, the opportunities and the activities, etc. Shocking right? Want me to go further? Negative thoughts are twice more impactful than positive thoughts. Think about this: if 99 people say that you are great and wonderful and one person says you are terrible. This would JUST ruin your day. That is how we are wired to think as humans.An unstable mind in the evolution process
Why? On my spiritual journey, I learned that in our evolution process, our brain is not developed to a point to have a stable thinking process. That said, to maximize our potential, we need to manage this 70% of negative thinking. Most people would say we should just think positively. Even though a part of it is correct, I later learned that the effective way to do it is by NOT Thinking negatively.The process is as such. Every time you have a negative thought, you would REPLACE it with a positive idea.You minimize the mental room for negative thoughts by replacing the negative thoughts with positive thoughts.![]()
Increase the level of self-awareness
So, we do have CONTROL over our thoughts. The key is in the awareness of the negative thoughts when they crawl up in our minds. How to develop your self-awareness? Here are the ways: 1. meditation; 2. yoga ; 3. Take mindset coaching; 4. Study; 5. Journaling. The more you understand how your mind works, the more you can take control of it by directing your thoughts ONLY to what you want.You are the master of your results in life
So, now you know that that you are the only person who stands between you and your success.You are the only one to thank and the only one to blame for your results in life. Therefore, cultivate your awareness in your thought pattern and commit to setting aside the time to train your mind by removing the limiting thoughts and installing the positive ones. Start doing an experiment by identifying a negative thought that keeps popping up in your mind and replace it with a positive one.
