The Number #1 Success Principle
It sounds rather counter-intuitive to do what you hate in order to get what you want.
Nevertheless, It is one of the most effective principles that is proven by people who belong to the club of extraordinary success.
Not only that, you will need to do what you hate first thing in the morning, consistently, in order to get to enjoy what you want later in life.
I only came across this principle just early this year from one of my mentors, Marisa Peer, through her Youtube channel.
It was a few months prior to my turning the age of 50.
Aging has this positive effect, as the reality of ‘time is running out’ sets in . It forces you to be more focused in life. Eliminate the outside noises and focus on the inner voices.
I started to reflect on everything I had done. And everything I wanted to do but did not do it or gave up . And I realized that the list for the latter was way longer.
This bothered me very much…And then, the thought of what I had done so far was all that I could do in this lifetime scared me.
I was meant for more in life.
So I went on extensive self-analysis…this was when I came across this principle by Marisa Peer.
Marisa Peer is a world renowned hypnotherapist and transformational author from the UK. In her 30 some years of practice, she has worked with some of the most successful people including entrepreneurs, Olympic athletes, and Hollywood stars.
Based on her observation, this principle is one of the most effective principles applied by these successful people.
And she even said that she has since applied this principle in her life and make it a habit of her own
The One Principle that Stands Between You and Your Success
Now, you are going to ask me, Lin, this sounds rather counter-intuitive, why would you want to do what you hate first instead of what you love first.
And when we think about pursuing our dreams, aren’t we referring to pursuing what we love? Definitely not what we hate….
Just remember this, anything that is worth pursuing, there is always something that we do not want to do. And this principle might be what stands between you and your success.
Based on Marisa, very successful people know that in order to get to where they want to be, they need to do what they hate first.
On the other hand, the people who fail are generally the ones who gave up on their dreams before doing what they hate first.
Furthermore, successful people do not wait for motivation to come to them, they just do want they need to do and once they start doing it, they become motivated.
The best thing is this… When you do enough of what you hate first, it actually becomes a habit and a second nature to you.
Install A Success Habit That Can Take You to Where You Want To Be
Marisa also gave an example of her Olympic athlete clients. These athletes definitely aimed for their gold metals. However, none of them enjoyed getting up at 3:00 am in the morning to train on a daily basis.
The fact was that they still did it anyways. Because they knew that by doing what they hated first in the morning daily, it would lead them to where they wanted to be.
This is in line with the success principle I learned from the book “Can’t Hurt Me” by David Goggins. By the way, this is one of the very best motivational books I have read.
In this book, David talked about how he needed to lose 106 pounds in order to join the NAVY in less than three months. Well, he was faced with the impossible and yet he made it possible by doing what he hated first.
He would get up at 4:30 am to start training himself mentally and physically. He knew that it took toughness to pull off the impossible. In his words:
“I was staring at hours, days and weeks of nonstop suffering.”
He did the impossible for most people All for the goal to become a Navy SEAL and he’d made it . He knew that he needed to do the impossible in order to get to the possible. Even if it meant a long period of suffering.
Start Your Goal Book Right Away
Then, my question is:
Have you set any goals but were never committed to achieving it? or Have you given up on them because you had encountered some difficulties?
It is time to go through your goal book, if you have one. If not then start a goal book now.
You would want to:
- Set a goal(s)
- Write out what needs to be done to achieve it (them);
- Break the above list into what you love and what you hate;
- Start doing what you hate first thing in the morning every day till they get done.
And you know what, once you get done what you hate first in the morning, you have the rest of the day to enjoy what you love to do.
In addition, when you get done what you hate first in the morning, you feel like a winner. And when you feel like winner, you act like a winner. And when you act like a winner, you are a winner.
Please note that in this world, there is a club that belong to the successful people and another club that belongs to the unsuccessful people.
If the price to pay to get into the club of success is by doing what I hate first, that is what I am willing to pay and I am sure that you would do the same.
So, ladies, I invite you to go on the journey with me together.
Let’s make “doing what we hate first in the morning” a HABIT for life and EXPECT to enjoy a successful life.
